Gakuden Castle Site

Historic Site
This is the site of Gakuden Castle, which according to legend was built by Oda Hisanaga between 1504 and 1522. The main part of the castle is now the premises of Gakuden Elementary School, and only a few stone monuments remain at the site of the castle gate. It seems that retainer Sakai Masahisa became the lord of Gakuden Castle after Inuyama Castle was captured by Oda Nobunaga in 1565. Gakuden Castle was used as a fortress by Hideyoshi’s faction during the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute in 1584, and it is believed to have been abandoned afterward.
